As a neutral observer of the US election, I have been able to sit back and objectively analyse the behaviour and activities of both sides. The observations in this article are based on that analysis and highlight developments that should be of grave concern, not only to Americans but also to their allies across the world, including the UK and the EU. It is essential that everyday Americans wake up to the reality of these issues, as they pose a significant security threat to all NATO countries.
The connections between Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and their disturbing alignment with Russian interests are becoming increasingly evident. The implications of this alignment should not be underestimated. Musk, the world’s wealthiest man, has been supporting Trump in ways that, in some instances, appear to cross legal boundaries. Both men frequently echo Kremlin narratives, and reports suggest they have maintained secret communications with Russian officials. It would be reckless to dismiss this as mere coincidence.
According to recent reports, including those from The Wall Street Journal, Musk has been in regular communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other Kremlin figures since late 2022. While Musk initially supported Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression, his stance shifted dramatically over the course of the year, with his public rhetoric aligning more and more with pro-Russian viewpoints. This sudden change in position raises serious questions about his motivations and the extent of his involvement with Moscow.
Musk, known for his unpredictable and often inconsistent behaviour, previously claimed he wasn’t supporting any political candidate. However, his actions speak differently. He is now openly backing Trump, using his social media platform, X, to amplify Trump’s messages while also providing substantial financial contributions to his campaign.
On the other side, Trump has reportedly maintained covert communications with Putin since his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. This revelation is compounded by Trump’s unlawful retention of classified documents at his private residence, raising serious concerns about how this sensitive information may have been used or exposed. Trump has also surrounded himself with individuals who are sympathetic to Russian interests, a group that has been with him since his first presidential campaign.
Additionally, actions Trump took during his time in office, particularly overseas, are now bearing troubling consequences. His meetings with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, which were widely touted as breakthroughs, ultimately served to strengthen the North Korean regime. These efforts, rather than advancing diplomacy, have empowered North Korea, which is now reportedly supplying arms—and by some accounts, soldiers—to support Russia’s war in Ukraine. The bolstering of North Korea’s military capabilities under Trump’s watch has directly contributed to the worsening global security landscape.
Moreover, Trump’s cosy relationship with Putin during his presidency has had long-term ramifications. His unwillingness to challenge Putin’s aggressive policies fostered a belief in Moscow that a major military action, such as the invasion of Ukraine, could be conducted with minimal consequences. By maintaining a favourable rapport with Putin, Trump effectively signalled a tolerance for Russian expansionism, creating an environment in which Putin felt emboldened to act. The repercussions of this policy miscalculation are being felt today as Russia continues its brutal invasion of Ukraine, destabilising Europe and threatening global security.
However, the sad truth is that it is the small-time farmers, coal workers, manufacturers, and loyal Republicans who are being misled into voting not for a traditional Republican but for someone who, to outside observers, resembles a fascist. Many of these voters, who believe in the core values of the Republican party, are being cheated into supporting a man whose actions are far removed from those values. And there is growing concern that Trump may no longer have full control over his faculties—if he did, why would he resist disclosing his latest medical records so openly? His refusal raises questions about his health, and whether he is truly fit to serve.
It is also important to acknowledge that Vice President Kamala Harris has her own challenges, and she has faced criticism for various aspects of her leadership. However, what Harris does not present is a security risk to the American people or to global stability. Unlike Trump, she does not carry the weight of being a potential threat to the very fabric of national and international security.
Using Trump’s own words, “the enemy within” is not the opposition, but Trump, Musk, and others who have blurred the truth for personal gain. Through a campaign of smoke and mirrors, they have worked hard to obscure the reality of their actions from the American people. Yet, to the rest of the world, it is painfully obvious. Trump, Musk, and their allies are driving narratives that not only endanger the United States but also destabilise the broader global community.
Fortunately, in a democracy, individuals still have the power to vote and change the way things are heading. However, one thing is abundantly clear: if Trump were to win the 2024 election, he has openly stated his intention to change the U.S. Constitution. With no effective checks in place, he could dismantle the fundamental rights of everyday Americans, reshaping the country in a way that would be unrecognisable. Trump has made no secret of his desire to do this. The real question is whether voters are discerning enough to see through his one-liners and bravado, and understand what he is truly selling behind the showmanship. His words are not just rhetoric—they represent a clear and present danger to American democracy.
For those who have been closely watching the activities of these two individuals, these revelations are not surprising—but they are deeply concerning. The risk they pose extends far beyond U.S. borders, and their connections with the Kremlin should be scrutinised with urgency. NATO countries, whose security depends on a united and resolute front, should be particularly alert to these developments. It is crucial that Americans realise the gravity of this situation and the implications it has for their own national security and for the security of their allies worldwide. The risks are too significant to ignore.
